I have a Schwinn 16 speed hybrid bike that seems to drag at times.?

Sometimes I notice the bike rolls effortlessly , then I can feel a drag and it seems harder to peddle, and I have to peddle constantly. I don't hear any noises, no rubbing of brakes. Its just a straight axel , no shocks in back. Thought it was the pavement changes or my imagination, but today just coasting nicely, and then the drag came, its not enough to stop the bike or slow it down to much, but it causes me to pedal more. Thanx

Old Hippie asked for a link to the exact model of your bike, you didn't give that information.

It is very frustrating to try to answer questions with incomplete information

You say that of course you checked tire pressure, but didn't include that information in the original question.

Remove both wheels and check how easily the axles spin, they should turn with almost no friction and no play.

Taking your bike to a mechanic actually is a good option. If you don't know much about bike mechanics and you don't have the necessary tools, it is easy to damage something. Taking the bike to a professional could save money.

    A) A link to the exact bike in question might have been helpful.

    B) Have you checked the air pressure in the tires? Try inflating them close to or at the maximum rated level.

    C) Has the bike ever been inspected & tuned-up by a certified mechanic at a real BICYCLE SHOP?

    D) Since no one on the internet can physically see the bike - everything is a guess.

    E) Last but not least...my pet peeve. You PEDAL a bicycle, not "peddle".

    peddle - http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/peddle

to carry (small articles, goods, wares, etc.) from place to place for sale at retail; hawk.

    pedal - http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/pedal

a lever-like part worked by the foot to supply power in various mechanisms, as the BICYCLE.

Thanks for the answers I think ? I didn't come here to ask how to spell peddle, how do you send a photo of a drag ? how can I send a link to the exact question, its my exact question. And of course I checked tire pressure and brakes rubbing etc, smh, sometimes yahoo answers just brings out the douche in people. I didn't take it to a bike shop, I came here to save money, isn't that the point. smh again

    wind

    hills

    low tire air

    tire rubbing

    brake dragging

    go to bike shop

try to figure out how to make it do the problem first

    reliably

    exactly

whe n you do that you are 90% of the way to a fix anyway

doesn;t really make sense without more observation, experiments

    wle

My guess is the rear hub is out of adjustment or needs service. That is the first place to look if you see nothing rubbing.

Sometimes extreme frame flex can cause problems.
