Because tribal police don't have any authority off the reservation. If a non-native enters a reservation, commits a crime, and then leaves, the tribal police can't do a thing. Can't arrest him, even if they know exactly who he is. They can ask the local police to make the arrest, but they never do.

What can be done? Give tribal police the authority to serve warrants and make arrests out of their jurisdiction. But that's never going to happen.

Heck, a few years ago, the government tried to pass the "violence against women act" with a clause in it that specifically excluded it from protecting native American women. Because 87% of the assaults on native American women are committed by non-natives, and they didn't want white boys arrested for attacking Indians.

read this, too. Read the whole article. They were attacked by a cop's son, and when the police responded, they arrested the VICTIM and withheld medical treatment. http://indiancountrytodaymedianetwork.com/2011/06/...

Ban alcohol both on the res and in a 100 mile radius around the res and spend all the casino money on building schools and staffing them.
