    There is also another way of solving for t:

    Let:

    P1 = ( t, - 2)

    P2 = ( 2, 1)

    Slope = m = (y1 - y2) / (x1 - x2). .....(equation of slope given 2 points)

    .where slope =m = - 5

    - 5 = (-2 - 1) / (t - 2).....Solve for t

    - 5 ( t - 2) = ( - 3)

    -5t + 10 = - 3

    -5t = - 3 -10

    t = -13/-5 = 13/5

    So, t = 13/5

    1+2/2-t = 5

    3 = 10 - 5t

    5t = 7

    t = 7/5 or 1.4

    rise = 1 - (-1) = 2

    run = 2 - t

    slope = rise/run = 2/(2-t)

    solve for t:

    2/(2-t) = -5

    m = (y2 - y1)/(x2 - x1)

    -5 = (1 - (-2))/(1 - t)

    -5(1 - t) = 3

    -5 + t = 3

    t = 8
