Street dog bit me.?

Hi! so a few minutes ago I got scratched by a street dog right outside of our house. It tried to bite me but I managed to slip my hand out. just a tiny scratch, maybe about half an inch. The dog didn't show any sign of rabies because it was only trying to protect her babies from what I saw. I've already cleaned the would with soap, alcohol and betadine, also let it bled for a few minutes.. I'm experiencing a little pain but I'm sure it's just normal pain you always get from wounds. Should I be concerned guys? I don't want to burden my mom with a vaccine because we're having a bad time with money.. Still, all thoughts are appreciated. Thanks.

@Lizzie: That's twice today you've posted the same misleading nonsense. I suggest you check your facts. Admittedly rabies is a rare disease, but there have been over 40 rabies deaths in the USA in the last 15 years. These are the official CDC notifications: http://www.cdc.gov/rabies/location/usa/surveillanc...

@OP: Your chances of contracting rabies are extremely low, but I would still be suspicious of a street dog that attacked a human - they normally keep their distance. Why don't you get Animal Control to take a look at the dog (and get the puppies into a shelter). If they have any grounds for suspicion of rabies you can get the vaccination immediately. Rabies vaccines for post-infectious prophylaxis are free of charge and Animal Control will direct you to the appropriate doctor or ER.

if you get a fever, go get a shot. If not, then you're perfectly alright. the pain is normal, just put some anti-septic cream on the wound

No one has died from rabies in the USA in over 40 years. Rabies is a RARE disease here. If your tetanus shot is up to date (you need one every 15 years) then you have no worries at all.
