The spy networks have made the difference in wars. Winning a war is the art of deception.

Being polite and tactful is a level of deceit. Some should be measured on intention. You may care about someone enough not to tell them bluntly what you think, and at other times, the person may be better off in the long run knowing something that would hurt them today.

Telling a white lie to spare a loved one is not deception. Deception to me that is, is not good, it is contrived to fool someone for gain only to oneself.

A deceiver is not a person I would like to know and yes no matter how many times I am deceived I never know until it has gone and passed, then I twig. I would rather be deceived than learn how to be a deceiver.

the use of deception can make one a better deceiver, therefore a greater player of mind games. becoming more potent in the art of tricking minds, makes your own mind more fortified to being tricked.

moral of the story: the more you deceive the harder it is for you to be deceived.

The only time deception is positive is when it results in personal gain..and that's only to the one person.

Philosophically speaking, It depends on various other factors. Mainly it depends on which direction you are moving. Don't try in negative, wrong or reverse direction. I mean you should have some right attitude with a noble vision.

    From a biblical perspective:

Only God can turn curses into blessings!

Of course! telling a sick person that a loved one is well, when in reality they have died, is an obvious one.

And of course there's always those questions like, "Does this dress make me look fat?"
