It shows a lack of integrity. Call into question what else you would conceal if the truth was inconvenient. You should feel comfortable networking and selling yourself in the free market without having to hide who you are. If you are that concerned about your current employer finding out that you are job hunting, then that's just more evidence that you should be working somewhere else. LinkedIn has some privacy settings, use them as you see fit.

I hear you inimyaudi....but I was a business broker for many years, and VERY VERY VERY rarely would business reveal their actual name when putting themselves on the market. Nobody would care. They did that for a reason. Next, I know a bunch of companies who are HIRING, but who don't disclose their name publicly. Is that cool, but me not wanting my name and entire professional history online is not? Seems very very odd. Why would a recruiter care? My resume is 100% correct and complete....and I've been a major player with some big companies. The fact that my name might be "John Doe" for now is a deal breaker? Makes little sense to me....but maybe I'm just not seeing it. :)
