I can't understand why they cancelled the ICC World Test Championship?

It was three games, two semi-finals and a final. Which would have lasted over two weeks. The ashes series goes for a longer period of time, five consecutive weeks. If the itenary is overloaded get NZ to hold it. It just seems to me it's one of the few sports that doesn't have a World Cup.

It does have a World Cup...albiet in the ODI and T20 format...it was canned initially in 2013 due to financial issues ( TV networks wanted the ICC Champions Cup to continue) but I've read its supposed to be in for 2017

No they have cancelled it with no firms plans to actually a concrete time in which it will happen. Replaced by the Champions Cup one day tournament in which it was supposed to replace.
