In the hopes that the ex will continue to treat them as they have over the entire relationship.
I learned that hard way that this is never true.

Sometimes they have things in common and lots of good memories - they just can't live together in marriage. And when there are kids involved, it's best (unless one partner is abusive) to try to be cordial for the kids' sake. Personally, I do my best to make a relationship work, but if it doesn't I have no interest in continuing the association. Mostly because my ex turned stalker and that's no way to encourage friendship...

well some people are better off being FRIENDS Just because you can't be in a relationship. it don't mean that you CAN'T be friends. I am friends with 2 exs
