Why is an employment agency asking for my passport?
I did a couple of weeks work through an agency a few weeks ago. Today, I get a text from them asking me to send "copy of passport/proof of NI/Birth certificate" via email for upcoming audit. And "please secure more work", whatever the Hell they mean by THAT. So...who's getting audited here? Me or them? I doubt the IRS would notify them before me if I were getting audited. And, since I've been paid in full and they owe me nothing, why should I go out of my way for these people? (I hate employment agencies. They take a cut of my hard work and do nothing in return). Are there any negative consequences in store for me if I ignore them and block their number? I have no intention of ever using them again, and if I ever contact them again, it will be to ask them to remove me from their books. They were the shadiest agency I've worked through yet.

They should have asked for it BEFORE you started work, for proof that you are able to work legally in the UK. It's them who are getting audited, and now they're asking for the documentation they should have asked for in the first place. Feel free to ignore them. You won't be in trouble with the auditors, they will. HMRC do this from time to time to check that employers - and an employment agency is an employer for this purpose - is operating PAYE correctly.
What does the IRS have to do with this? They are American.

What country? From your mention of "NI," I assumed England. But from looking at your questions, maybe Egypt? But you mention "IRS" and I'm not sure this term is used in those countries, so maybe US?
So, I'm going to have to take a bit of a guess here and say that the audit refers to people legally allowed to work in the country. I suspect that they failed to do whatever is required, upon hiring you, to get your documentation.
If you fail to respond, they could turn your information over to the government. That might not be in their best interest, so hard to say what would really happen.
I have to wonder why you used an employment agency. Since you object to having them being paid for finding you work, why not just go find work yourself?

all agencies ask for 2 to 3 forms of id.

NI is UK, audit is an american word - do NOT give them a copy of your passport. You do that and your identity is hijacked.
