Alternatives to check cashing when you can't open a bank account?
If someone can't open a bank account because their last one was closed due to unpaid overdraft charges, what are some alternatives. Check cashing seems to be the only option, but it's resulting in approximately $20 a month in fees.

If the person has a job they may see if they can get direct deposit on a prepaid Debit card. Some places offer some kind of card like that. Some other places may have the ability to deposit the check on a prepaid card. They need to check with their hr manager or the payroll person to see. Or maybe see if they can pay the overdraft charges to clear their name somewhat in hopes to see if they can go to another bank and open possibly a savings account
