  • What happens when your spouse dies and has debt in California?

I'm engaged to someone who is terminally ill. The odds of us actually getting married are slim but could change if he gets a transplant. He has not been evicted due to covid, but owes back rent. As well as medical bills from what his insurance won't cover. At what point would I be liable for any debts he incurs prior to marriage? If at all.

  • How would you feel if your supervisor pulled you aside and talked to you about taking initiative like it is a bad thing?

I was a team lead for retail remodels for a major chain last year and assistant to the lead the year prior. My employer lost their contract. I took the job of assistant with another company. As an assistant the first time around; I was in charge of overseeing specific tasks, I was able to assign work to others, process parts orders, etc. The lead I originally worked with did daily meetings (client's requirement), we had paperwork ahead of time, and a clear idea of what should get done each day. As a lead myself, I typically did a weekly meeting, handled all paperwork, delegated tasks, and so on. I would look at the plans ahead of time to get a clear view of what needed to take place.

With this new lead I am working with, I feel like they have poor management and leadership skills. The first day I was on the job, they didn't provide direction or access to the project plans. They made the team tear out a vendor fixture that should have simply been relocated. We lost man hours in both tearing down and rebuilding something we never should've touched. The second day they were m.i.a. The third day the retailer's project manager made us and one other person stay late by more than an hour to clean, after all the other employees had already left for the weekend.

Today they gave me a talking to. My crime: assigning a task to someone so that I could have a fixture replaced. All work that should've been completed the week prior. They were bothered I took initiative, yet they won't.

  • I sold a car and now an insurance company is coming after me for damages the next owner did. What can or should I do?

I filed a release of liability with CA DMV and removed the vehicle from my insurance company within days of selling the vehicle. A month later an insurance company filed a claim with my insurance company. The claim was obviously denied as the vehicle had been removed from my policy. I sent my insurance the release of liability, which they claim to have forwarded on to the claimants insurance. I have since received two letters from the victim's insurance company requesting payment and threats of legal action.

  • What would you do?

I had been with the father of my child for over 4 1/2 years. We both love each other and we both have behavior issues that affect our relationship. We both acknowledge these issues and know we need to work on them if we are ever going to reconcile and get back together. There are two dynamics that make me wonder if I should try and work things out with him. 1. He started seeing someone else a month before we eventually broke up. Not the first time he has had an affair, and he admitted that his cheating is one of the things he needs to change on his end. 2. Before we started talking about working things out I turned to dating apps to take my mind off the heartbreak, and while I didn't have much interest in talking to the people that tried to connect with me, it was a real confidence builder to constantly be told throughout the day how attractive I am. I did connect with one person, however, and enjoy talking to them. They call me beautiful and ask about my day. I feel I could fall for this person however we have never so much as spoken over the phone, only text messages. We both have 2 kids and aren't interested in having more.

Now that the father of my child wants to work things out they tell me they love me more often and generally seem more loving in the way they talk to me.

I'm torn in whether I should try and see if me and my ex can work things out, or if I should explore this new interest.

  • Not at fault car accident, insurance lapsed at the time, other driver has full coverage. Should I get a lawyer?

I didn't have insurance over the weekend because I didn't have the money to pay my policy on time (which has since been fixed but still doesn't change anything relating to the accident). My car is no longer operable, due to the other driver attempting to pass me on a two lane road, while I was making a left turn. I have tried calling their insurance company but keep getting put on hold for extended periods of time or told to call another number. I still have no idea if they have filed a claim, which I would like to file one myself if they haven't done so. Can I file a claim with their insurance company or should I seek a lawyer's assistance?

  • My auto insurance lapsed and I got into an accident. Can I still get it reinstated if I file a loss with small claims?

I was in an accident where I was not at fault. Due to financial hardship my insurance lapsed 12 days prior, I have until the end of the week to reinstate it. Checking with my ins company, it says I can reinstate the insurance if I provide a statement of no loss for the lapsed period.

The at fault driver claims they have insurance but has failed to provide this information. I don t think the damage is over $10,000 and would like to take them to small claims court as that is the limit in my state.

If I were to collect on the accident without going through my insurance co, could I still get reinstated? Filing a statement of no loss is a requirement to reinstate the policy.

  • How does working affect SSDI?

If a person is permanently disabled and becomes employed full time, how does it affect their benefits. For instance their gross annual income is $18000 and their annual benefit amount is $10000. Obviously working is the better option, but how does it affect them long term. I know they would still be qualified to receive the benefits for the first few months. But after this period ends, what would happen?

  • What are your rights when facing possible car repo? Car was never put in your name?

A friend bought a used car in November. The mechanic they purchased from never gave them the title or had the vehicle registered to my friend's name. As far as I know the title isn't even in the mechanic's name. After down payment, they had two monthly payments of $750. My friend struggled to pay last month, and only came up with $500. Now the final payment is coming due, along with the past due amount. The person they purchased the vehicle from has threatened repossession if the balance is not paid in full by month's end and has said they will be out all monies paid which is $3600. They are concerned that they might not be able to come up with the full $1000 owed.

I told them they paid too much for the vehicle (which is salvage and similar vehicles on CL are going for $3000 w/o salvage), and that they should have received the title at time of purchase or had paperwork drawn up to change the title to their name. Is there anything they can do? Is the repossession process being carried out too quick?

  • Backed up toilet in rental whenever someone defecates. Who's responsible?

My boyfriend and his mother just moved I to an apartment 5-6 weeks ago. About a week ago they started having plumbing issues. Every time someone had to go, the toilet clogged. They finally called maintenance but when they came out this morning the guy said nothing is wrong. Apparently it was clogged overnight and was cleared out by the tenants around 5 am. Maintenance came around 11. That was about the 4th time this past week. If it continues what steps should they take? What are their rights? It's highly unlikely that the clog is due to their own actions.

  • Interview Question: Outside of work, what are some of the things you do?

Ok, so yes, it sounds crazy. But I recently did a phone interview and the guy emailed me questions that would likely be asked in the face to face interview. This was one of them. I'm a single parent on welfare, I don't get out much and when I do it's often with the kids in tow. I am drawing a blank on what I could say without incorporating my toddlers into the answer.

This is for one of those solar panel sales jobs.

  • Alternatives to check cashing when you can't open a bank account?

If someone can't open a bank account because their last one was closed due to unpaid overdraft charges, what are some alternatives. Check cashing seems to be the only option, but it's resulting in approximately $20 a month in fees.

  • Someone hit my parked car...now what?

I woke up this morning to find out the cover of one of my lights is missing, the front bumper has a scratch and part of the grille is cracked. Only place this may have taken place is the grocery store parking lot last night as there were few cars around, or in my driveway (the part of the vehicle in question sat at the end of the driveway and someone may have backed into my car turning around). Can I file an insurance claim? The vehicle is leased and has full coverage but I've never dealt with this type of thing.

  • Is it time to contact the labor board for not getting paid?

A friend got a job at a temp agency, started the same day they went in to apply. Two weeks later (Friday) he didn't get paid. They said they forgot his check at the corporate office and it would be there Monday. Monday they say it'll be there Tuesday, his check was never printed. Now today they say there was an issue with his social and he has to submit a new application. Should he just go to the labor board? They keep changing their story. You would think he would be contacted or not allowed to work if his social wasn't valid.

  • What does a model's resume show?

I got a casting call for a hair show. It's not a requirement, but they said if I have a headshot and resume, to bring it. If I were to throw something together what might it say?

  • Would you eat older meat that has been thoroughly cooked?

I'm already aware that the general rule is to not store raw meat in a fridge for more than 3-5 days. I bought stew meat with a sell by date of August 29th. It's now September 5 and I'm just getting around to cooking it. The color is drained in most of it, but there is still some pink present throughout. I'm cooking it in a slow cooker, it has already been two hours and it will continue to cook or simmer for a few more. If anything it seems like it could be salvageable enough for the dogs (I'll have to see how the end result looks), but I figured I'd get others opinions on whether you would try it or not if it was in your kitchen.

  • How to list experience on a resume with multiple job changes?

I have been in the work force for just over 9 years with 11 positions. When I was younger I often changed jobs after about a year, with a few short term positions in between or as a second job. In the past 5 years I have had 3 positions. One was just over a year, and the two following were seasonal, with just over a year of unemployment between each of these positions.

I've researched the topic, but all the articles I've found are geared towards people with over 10 years of experience. So I'm considering using the past three positions for "experience," and highlighting key work tasks from older positions under "skills".

Do you think this is a good idea or would you do something different?
