Why did GOD Name the devil lucifer when he was supposedly an angel?

doesn't Lucifer sound like I evil name no matter how you look at it. I mean why would he give an angel such an evil name to begin with?

Lucifer "bright, shining" refers to the planet and goddess Venus. It is not a proper name but an epithet--or descriptive name. The Fall of Lucifer, found in the Book of Enoch (not part of the Christian Bible, btw) is a Jewish version of a cross-cultural myth about why Venus is the morning star and not found with the other stars in the night sky (it fell from Heaven, mythologically speaking). The story is also a metaphor about the Jews rivalry with the Babylonians, who the Jews painted as evil. "Lucifer" in this story refers to the Babylonian King Nebuchadnezzar , who identified with goddess Venus (Lucifer) and how his rule came to an end and the Jews were freed from Babylonian oppression (Archangel Michael is the tutelary angel of the Jewish people). The myth was reinterpreted centuries later by Christians as a story about how Satan became Satan. Satan originally was an avenging angel in Jewish lore--not "evil" and not God's nemesis. Medieval Christians needed a bad guy in their dualistic religion and so reframed Satan as such and applied the story from the Book of Enoch as well as the story of Adam, Eve, and the serpent to its idea of Satan. If you feel a certain way the name it is because you are conditioned to feel that way

Contrary to these other answers, God did not name the devil Lucifer. If you read the first verse of that chapter you will see that's its's talking about a pronouncement against Babylon. Again, another missinterpretation by by the early Bible scholars.

The root of the word is the Latin 'luce', meaning light. Lucifuge was the morning star, i.e. Venus. The only 'evil' associated with the goddess Venus is her uncontrollable lust. Man, is that evil! It might turn Christians away from God and derail the Apocalypse, which might make the sky fall down! Stupid freaking Christians.

I don't think God named him. Lucifer is an entity that has agreed to assume the role of the ''bad guy'' since the beginning of man in order to establish the good/evil polarity on our planet and assist us in our spiritual evolution. If there wasn't evil, we wouldn't be able to define good and rejoice in it. Without polarity and the choice for us to choose and be challenged, existence would be stagnant and our existence meaningless and without purpose. Yin and Yang. Light and darkness. Lucifer is necessary evil. Evil on our planet but and angel of light and an accomplished entity on the macrocosmic level. By the way hell is a man made concept created to keep us in fear. The best way to control people is through fear. Fear of eternal damnation, now that, is clever, and it works so good.

The name Lucifer is a Latin translation followed by the KJV of the Hebrew word for "morning star." In Isaiah 14:12, where the word is used as a title for the king of Babylon who had exalted himself as a god.

Lucifer was the name of Satan before he fell because of the sin of pride, also of rebellion. Lucifer was an honorable name. the name of Jesus is not even the name of the Saviour. Emmanuel was the Hebrew name of the Son of Man of Holiness. but christians follow the greeks, and the greeks changed it from yeshua and JHVH.

Lucifer is no longer an angel of God, but while he was an angel, he was very much reverred and loved of by God. he was a brother of Jesus in the pre existence before the fall. He is not a brother of the Faith anymore. He is not a citizen of the kingdom of God, and will be bound in the Lake of fire for a thousand years. i think those thousand years began in the 19th century, and i believe we are being called to the unity of the fold of God, even now. i dont believe lucifer was a king of the earth in this mortality. because it plainly says in the verse found in Isaiah, that He fell from Heaven. John also wrote in the Revelation that he beheld Satan being cast down to the earth with the unholy angels. and Jesus said he beheld satan fall from heaven like lightning. so, literally, if those three things are true together, without mythology, even jesus said Satan does exist. after all, Jesus was also tempted with the four temptations and he did not sin.

coming to the knowledge of the sacrifices Jesus did make, he made a covenant with heavenly Father to be glorified, even as He glorifies the Father in Heaven. lucifer chose to rebel against God because Jesus was chosen to be the saviour of this world and all Gods people on it. Satan therefore made war against God, in desparation, possibly, to try and overcome God to take over the throne. Jesus didnt do this, he submitted to the will and promised to be the sacrificial Lamb, and while in mortality understood that he should be obedient to God and faithful always, in order to save himself and to Save all of us. to save himself, means he was open to the judgment of God but did not sin and was blameless before God and Man.

Jesus is the tree of life. Satan is the poison that destroys life. so, choose you this day, do you want eternal life, or do you want to live in misery and be cast out of the kingdom of God. to follow the culture of death?

The name Lucifer, means morning star, Lucifer was the most beautiful of all the Archangels until he became big headed, he wanted to be like God, so when God created Man, like Himself, Lucifer lost it, he rebelled and became adversary to God, the name Satan means adversary...

    Source(s): Isaiah 14: 13-15
  • The name Lucifer means "light bearer" and it actually and rightfully belongs to Christ who is the bright and morning star. The Enemy has managed to usurp this name to himself in popular culture. No wonder. He is the father of lies after all. The name only sounds evil due to enculturation. I hope this helps.

Lucifer means one made of light in the tonge of man. Man named him, not God. His name is mentioned for the first time in a text thought to be written by John. Not God.
