How long does it take for a deleted Tumblr URL to become available?

I did a URL swap with someone else, but Tumblr says that the URL is already taken. However, when I go to the link it says the page cannot be found. Also, I've been to sites that check URL availability and they say it's available. Has this happened to anyone before? And how long will it take for it to become available?

    As far as I know between 12 - 24 hours.

    As far as I can tell, Tumblr has never released old URLs for reuse no matter how long ago they they were closed.
