Remember a christmas movie / tv special featuring kangaroos?

I live in britain but my australian cousins sent it over in the 90s from what i remember it was puppets, but something happened to santa's reindeer and he ended up in australia using kangaroos to pull his sleigh? this has bugged me for years any help would be appreciated?

    Six white boomers was a song, perhaps there was a movie made of that.
