Maybe, but there is no guarantee. The human species is only 200,000 years old and evolved intelligence. The Dinosaurs ruled the earth for 65 million years and never developed intelligence.

GrayBold: We don't know that. Man almost became extinct in the last ice age, no way to know if there were other species with intelligence evolution that have become extinct before leaving palpable marks.

maybe, some of the dinosaurs could be considered... not dumb. but it more revolves around survival and the ability to adapt to change. the humans would not have been able to evolve if the dinosaurs were not wiped out. although intelligence may be inevitable on a planet capable of harboring life for a very long time. my money is on the raccoons, opposable thumbs, resourceful, and it makes me smile, lol.

Who knows what kind of selective pressures will exist in the unforeseeable future. Remember that intelligence is not a goal of evolution.

I’d rather see ant’s or cockroaches follow mankind than apes.

There's no way to know that. It's not inevitable.
