I need an estimate on value of a Colt Diamondback .38 with 2 1/2 inch barrel.?
I can't post picture but it is in great condition and is all original. It has minor wear around the inside of trigger guard and on hammer as well as a bit on left side of barrel. It is one of the nicer ones I have seen online that it is NOT new. I have tried to look but it varies sooo much. What would be a fair price for me to take? I have seen as low as 500 all the way up to 2k. I just want a fair price so I can sell and feel good about it.
I do not own the box or original papers...Will that hurt the value? I hope not too much...It is in great condition and it is a 1976 I believe by searching the serial number....Hope that info helps!

Being a Colt fan and all, and the Diamondback being a VERY nice revolver, the short barrel would be a deal breaker for myself. That being said, and considering what a REAL buyer would pay that really wants to buy it, I would say $800 is top dollar. I bet it would take about $600 to actually have some action, and sell it. There are just too many other options for that kind of money.
* I do not have a Diamondback, would like to have one though, honestly, personally, I would not buy most even for $500. Again I could have allot of other firearms, for that.Consider, I paid $200...$200 for a S&W Masterpiece excellent condition, in .38 Special. Let's see, I could have two of them and money left over. Are you tracking ? Just a for instance.

I visited www.gunbroker.com and GunsAmerica.com and I can see allot of these for sale, at some pretty high prices......... but I am not seeing anyone actually buying them.
Looks like you need to take this to someone and have it appraised. There is obviously something going on when two near identical models - one is offered for $500 and the other is offered for $4300. Could be there is a magical date or something with these. Hopefully a Colt expert will drop by and tell us the scoop on these.

Do you have the original box and paperwork? Probably somewhere around $1200 retail, maybe a little less. I would expect a gun store to pay you about $800. Used gun prices are down. I recently saw a new in the box 1973 Colt Gold Cup sell for $1150 at my local gun shop, I thought it should have been closer to $1600.
The original box and paperwork would add to the value.
Go to Gunbroker.com and see how much they are selling for. Watch these auctions (note there are several sellers but few bidders because most of the starting prices or reserve prices are too high)
