Please identify this movie. I am unable to recall the name of the movie.?

It was a WW2 movie made in the 70s or 80s. The last scenes were like this. Two friends get holed up in the basement of a church. The Nazis start filling up the place with water. They pull out a deck of cards. I closed my eyes and after the sound of the gun shot when I opened my eyes (if I remember correctly, I watched it 28 years back) the two of hearts & diamonds were floating in the water.
