Goldfish with Pleco?

Before you say that they are not compatible because they need different temps. Fancy Goldfish need ~74F as they thrive and warmer temps and Plecos need 72F+ so it fits both their needs. There is 3 Fancy Goldfish (~3"-4") and 1 Pleco (~4"). I have heard stories of them sucking on their slime-coat but after 1 1/2 months of having them, I haven't noticed anything. The pleco only comes out of night and stays in his cave. Ocassionally though, I would put an algae wafer in the cave the goldfish will come in the cave. The pleco just kinda pushes them away but doesn't chase them. I keep the pleco well fed with Mopani driftwood, zucchini, and algae wafers. The tank is a 55G and I have 2 Filters made for 70G/ea and is a total of 650G/hr.

It's when the pleco gets older that they get a lot bolder and are likely to latch onto large slow moving fish like goldfish. Not every pleco learns to do this, but it IS a common problem.

Keep an eye on things. Maybe you will get luck? Maybe the problem will happen in a couple of years time? Hard to say for sure.

You are correct that temperature isn't a serious issue as there is overlap in the temperature range. It's that omnovore slime coat eating thing.

plecos nearly always become a problem for fancy goldfish,

that's why you've heard it said,

    that's why I'm saying it,

that's why eventually your goldfish may not be doing well.

    Just to be clear.
