The underground marketplaces?

What are the underground marketplace, all I understand is that they use crypto currency such as bitcoin to make their transactions, but do they only sell the illegal stuff, and if so, It's sketchy as hell becuase of the way you have to access the sites with the anonimity and the algorithms put into the development of the anonimity.
