I don't understand the show The Voice, what is the show about?
I looked it up and watched part of an episode but I really don't get how the competition works. It seems like an interesting show but I really don't get it. I know it's a a singing show but that's like all know. Does the audience vote for the winner? American Idol is easy to understand, the judges/ producers pick the competitors that get to perform, it goes down to like 20 people and then the audience votes for there favorites. Then the person who gets the least amount of votes gets kicked of the show. The winner is the person who makes it through all of the rounds and in the last round gets the most votes. Is The Voice the same thing? Like whats different? What exactly does the chair thing eliminate? Is it bias towards appearance? (example being, I'm not going to pick this person because he/she is ugly) Please explain simply.

In The Voice, the singers go up and sing while the judges are not looking at them. The premise is that the singers are being judged solely on their talent. Then the judges turn their chairs if they like what they hear. If they don't then they don't get to pick the singers for their group. The judges that turn their chairs then try to get the singer to pick them as their coach. The singer picks a coach out of the judges that turn their chairs. If they don't get a judge to turn their chair, then they are disqualified. The audience has nothing to do with it. Whichever judge the singer picks, gets to coach the singer and then they compete against other singers. The singers in a group compete against one another and the coach has to pick which one stays and which one goes. Then once the coaches cut down their groups to a certain number, the viewers finally get to vote.

I only managed to sit through half of the first episode of the first series. For me, it's about 4 'judges' trying to reignite their own careers.
