Good video trimming software?

your Sony Vegas is as good as any for this. all editors work the same, none will trim the source file or change the source materials in any way. this is called non-destructive editing. the shortened version that you create is published as a new file. as to rendering time, that is an issue with the format selected for output. the more compression, the longer the render time. DV-avi file have little compression and they can be output in slightly faster than real time (ie a 20 minute video will take maybe 12 or 15 minutes). Super compressed HD output will take much longer than real time. how much longer depends on your computers CPU processing speed, and how many other tasks the CPU is doing concurrently, like internet and virus checking.

GoPro Cineform lets you do this. Go to gopro.com and you can download the free software. The only downside is the program makes a copy of the file in .avi (basically make sure you have enough room on your computer to make another copy of the video), and you cannot trim the video until you are in the editing stage because its not a gopro video file. So basically import the video into the studio, convert it, hit blank template when you proceed to step two (will pop up), and you can trim it from there, then hit export, and you should be good.
