I don't get a Mad Men reference?
In season 2 episode 6, Peggy asks a couple of the men who she would best be described as: Marilyn Monroe or Jackie Kennedy.
One of them, Ken, replies with Gertrude Stein. The rest of the men laugh.
I don't get the reference or how it's funny to them. I researched who Gertrude was and it said she was a talented poet/writer, something along those lines. I don't see how that could be comical or insulting or anything like that.
Anyone care to explain?

Did you see her picture?
Marilyn, and Jackie were style icons, and icons of femininity, where Gertrude Stein has quite a butch look.
