I need help convincing my parents to let me play Video Games.?

I have tried the best arguments to why video games are good and why it would basically be a free reward, but they never listen. Every time I talk to them about this (mostly my mom), they think that I'm too addicted and that my statements proved their point. This is just so frustrating! I don't even play any violent games. My favorite video games are from "The Legend of Zelda", which is just an adventure and exploration game. I just want to replay my Zelda games. I am also an A student, but they always say "You get As because you don't play video games". Please, someone help me. My parents won't change their minds no matter what I tell them. PLEASE HELP REUNITE ME WITH ZELDA!

Try bringing up the benefits of video games to her one more time, also show her the links below to back up your point...

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/08/24/video-gam...

*tell her you want to be a surgeon and show her* vvv

then when she reverts back to the "your arguing proves my point" bs here's what you say...

"Mom, i was learning about cognitive reasoning in school last week and i think you will find your argument comes under the banner of being an Ad Hominem (personal attack if she asks), this is known as an informal fallacy. You see, mom, from a logical standpoint it as appropriate to base the validity of and refutations of an argument exclusively on the reasoning used to support it. In choosing to cast doubt on my personal characteristics rather than deal with my argument you are using invalid premises to support your position, hence your argument has no credibility... let's say for a moment it was thomas aquinas who was stood here now, saying the exact same thing that i am saying; would that be more convincing for you?"

if she says yes respond with

"No it's not, this is also invalid reasoning... It is known as an appeal to authority and is a failure for the exact same reasons"

    then end with

"I know i cannot force you to let me play video games, however, the FACT is they are good for you, i have big ambitions in life and not being allowed to play video games and the benefits they bring could well hold me back from reaching them, i know you don't want some silly stereotype you have to hold me back from that... i also think after trying so hard at school and getting such good grades i deserve a reward..."

Source(s): Parents are stubborn, chances are this won't work but at least you make her feel like an idiot for being so unreasonable.
  • Well, I can't really help you convince your parents to let you play. If they're really that ignorant about gaming you pretty much gotta take responsibility and start acting more adult like and play by your own means. If you're looking to play the newer generation of games get a job and buy your own stuff. Try to keep it on the down low. However, I can help you if you want to play older games such as Zelda.

To play these games you're going to download emulators. Emulators work just like consoles. Note, using them will require basic computer knowledge. Once you have the emulator for your desired console you'll want to search around for a ROM for any games you want. Once you download the roam you load it into the emulator and play it. There's also some configuring you'll want to do under the control settings. Anyway, below is a link to a site that has a list of console emulators and it also has some game ROMs. Some times if they don't have it you'll need to look on other sites such as emu paradise. Also, depending on the console you will also need to download the BIOS for it which again can be found on the web.

You want to replay a game you've already played. And then say your not addicted. I love my Zelda though. Except for Twilight princess. Get a job if old enough. If not, theres nothing you can really do.

Tell them to grow up and stop leaving you in their past because they feel bad about it. You be the parent and ask them where their lives got screwed up. My mom is very old fashion and traditional also. Ask if they liked any musics, but their parents wouldn't allow them to listen to it. If they answer yes just give them a blank silent face.

Tell them you will only play on the weekends and they can give you a time limit.
