What is the name of the time theory that stephen hawking came up with?

Im not a science guy so forgive me for the lack of information. I ran into an article where steven hawking discussed an alterate version of time. Think of time as a straight line going foreward and backward, his theory is that there is some time that goes up and down between that line. I forgot what he called it. He said Hollywood hasn't made a film about it because they don't understand it. Can anyone help?

Yes. You're mistaken. Stephen Hawking has never come up with an alternate version of time. Your description is also flawed. How can time go "up and down" between a line? The arrow of time goes only one way - forward. Hawking believed for a while that the contraction of the universe would cause the arrow of time to reverse direction but then realized that that was wrong after David LaFlamme proved it by running the calculations through a computer.

The nature of time is Stephen Hawking's worse subject and he has made countless errors in it that Marshall Barnes has exposed and gotten recognition for. Like the Mad Scientist Paradox, Chronology Protection Conjecture, his claims about Back to the Future and parallel universes, and more.

You may have been thinking about his mentioning imaginary time but that is a mathematical construct and he didn't invent it and it doesn't match your description at all.
