stephen hawking time theory?

He described time as straight line going foreward and backward. He said there is an alternate for of time, a line that would go up and down? What did he call it again??

    He uses the term 'imaginary' time in his no-boundary proposal. The term imaginary is used in many different mathematical contexts however. The specific term in this case is called the Wick rotation.
