Why in high school science (UK) do we only start learning the basics in year 10?
[For science teachers, or students] I haven't been able to understand much of science in general since I started high school, but now, suddenly, when we begin learning the basics, I do understand it! I don't get why the science topics begin as if you already know things like terminology and basic ... 'rules' (??)... Is this because of the exam board we're on (edexcel) or just an unlucky mix up (they seem to do the units in a random order)... Has anyone else had this happen to them? Is there enough time from year 10 to be able to make up for all that I didn't understand in the first 3 years? And also, slightly off-topic, but have any of you actually enjoyed high school science/found it fun?

I loved solving chemistry and physics problems. Botany wasn't a great turn on for me. Each branch of science has its own particular terminology but all sciences have some terminology in common.
Back in my day we studied physics in grade 11, chemistry in grade 12 and in grade 13 one could study physics, chemistry, botany, zoology, These sciences weren't compulsory as courses were chosen depending on the requirements of the university programme we wanted to enter.
while the units may seem to you to be in random order they aren't.
