  • Why in high school science (UK) do we only start learning the basics in year 10?

[For science teachers, or students] I haven't been able to understand much of science in general since I started high school, but now, suddenly, when we begin learning the basics, I do understand it! I don't get why the science topics begin as if you already know things like terminology and basic ... 'rules' (??)... Is this because of the exam board we're on (edexcel) or just an unlucky mix up (they seem to do the units in a random order)... Has anyone else had this happen to them? Is there enough time from year 10 to be able to make up for all that I didn't understand in the first 3 years? And also, slightly off-topic, but have any of you actually enjoyed high school science/found it fun?

  • Can someone edit this program so it'll work on python?

I'm fairly new to python, and this is based on a couple of lessons at school and a few short tutorials. I wanted to create a computing version of the game MASH, but it keeps on saying 'invalid syntax' when I try it. I'll copy and paste it and put a link to it here, and if you have the program, maybe you could paste it into python yourself and try it out? I really need some help with this :) thanks!!

  • I'm in year 9 - are my grades/levels good?

    I got:

    English - Writing: 7c

Reading: 6a/7c (but my overall teacher assessment was 7b)

    Maths - Grade B (by 1 mark (: )

    Science - Unit 2: Grade A (by 1 mark (: )

    History - 8b :)

    French - Writing: 7c/A*

    Speaking: 6b/A

    Reading: Grade C

    Listening: Grade C

Religion - 6b (but to be fair, i was 6 marks off an 8c, so the mark scheme was quite finely tuned)

    Thanks in advance :)

  • What is a level 8b worth in GCSE grades - History?

This question is for people who have either done a history gcse and know the level to grade boundaries, or for any history teachers (in the UK).

I'm in year 9 and have just done some practice tests for various subjects. I think that this test was made by our history department, so it might not be exactly right, but I'd like to know what the level 8b would get me at GCSE level. (I got 33 marks but I can't remember what it was out of)

  • Why do the "neutrals" generally hate man city?

It just really annoys me as a manchester city supporter, that the "neutrals" generally want man city to fail. People say things like: "manchester city has no heart" or "liverpool have been playing better all season". I can guarantee that the majority of man city's supporters are from England and have been supporting even through times of failure. Our team pumps money into the local economy and offers a community centre and jobs for people in Eastern Manchester. And we've been playing consistently well all season - if liverpool have been playing better than us, why are we ahead of them? I know people think that because our owners are rich people in Abu Dhabi, we are only about the money, but that is unfair and untrue - our club is founded on the fans, and they are what have got us through the tough times. If another team got that financial support, would they not take it?

Please could you think about this, rather than abusing us for our money?

And if you're looking at this, prepared to start a rant about how 'heartless' and 'money-based' city are, then can you please just... not?

  • Will I get food poisoning if I've eaten raw chicken that has been 'cooked' from frozen?

I had these small chicken goujons that were in the freezer, which I cooked straight away. I believe that all but one was uncooked, and I'm not really sure if I ate the raw part... Since it's the germs that are the problem, won't them having been in the freezer minimize the risk of getting poisoned? Please HELP!

  • Why is Manuel Pellegrini so intent on playing Demichelis?

I'm sure he can be a really good player, but he seems to be doing very badly at the moment, and, like when Hart was getting bad publicity at the start of the season, shouldn't he be put on a break for it to die down? Surely with such a vast squad, there's a player or 2 to make up for him being gone...

  • If you could make up the plot for the last ever Doctor Who, what would it be?

    Mine would be this:

Every bad guy Doctor who has ever fought against comes up against earth and all of his allies in one final showdown. Anyway, it looks like the dr is gonna win until the bad guys bring in some notorious bad guys (maybe the daleks?) and the dr trys to get his assistant away becaue he knows they have lost, but she is badly injured and dies in the tardis. He sits there, crying over her, and looks out over the earth which is destroyed completely. (you get the sense that he is literally the only one left in the entire universe.) Then he starts to to think about how throughout his life, anyone he loved has either died or become lost forever. So he (somehow) turns back time, to the pinnacle moment where he became the doctor that we know and love. (massive flashback through every dr who moment ever) and he's this child being taught about being a timelord, and he can (i'll leave it to you to decide your ending) either:

    - have exactly the same things happen again, except this time, he does something that stops the massive war between bad and good guys, and dr who continues as normal

    - he makes the decision not to be a timelord, and it just ends with darkness. (because there's no light without dr who!)

    ANYWAY... what's yours?

  • How to make my cat use the cat flap?

We've recently bought a new cat flap, which is equipped with infrared detection of her microchip. So basically, when she puts her head near the flap, it unlocks to allow her to pass through. However, her way of getting through it before was different to most cats. She sticks out her paw to try and push the flap open, then the rest of her body follows. So now, when she tries to do this, she can't get through, because the cat flap doesn't unlock when she puts out her paw to push it.

Does anyone know how to train her to go through the flap head first?

  • Why are these ads appearing, and how do I get rid of them?

I've been using Google chrome for a while now, and nothing like this ever happened before, but now these ads keep on appearing. For some reason, there are these games, and they gust pop up when you click on the text box on Google. If you accidentally click it or play the game, it redirects you to some website, which is Asda's homepage most of the time. When i have managed to search what I wanted, it comes up like normal, then, after a second or so, some ads appear at the top of the page. There are 'web cake' ads which aren't as bad, then ads that are trying to look like windows security alerts (e.g. Your computer is at risk. Click fix it to repair the problem) and underneath it says 'ads not by this site' so how do i get them to go? I've looked on my google settings but thats no help as the ads aren't google's fault.

Oh, and sometimes, when i enter a website, such as yahoo answers, it comes up with all the graphics gone, and just text. Why is this happening?

Please help, this is sooooooo annoying!
