Why is a BMX faster than a mountai bike ?
In my opinion, the BMX feels faster (Not necessarily faster, but it feels like one), unlike in the mountain bike where I have to cycle a lot ot make it go.

A BMX might be faster for a couple of hundred meters. They accelerate faster because of the smaller wheels. After that the mountain bike would catch up and leave the BMX rider in his wake.
This is assuming of course that the 2 riders were of equal strength

the mt bike is in the wrong gear to take off quickly
and you don;t understand how or why to change it

Outside a BMX racetrack, it isn't.
But sure, if the course has enough sharp corners, and not much straightaway between them, it just might be.
