I'm writing a story where I compare the characters perfection to a china doll, and when she becomes 'not-so-perfect', I want to include the line "Well eventually porcelain (the doll's skin) _______, and glass (the doll's eyes) shatters. What should I say for porcelain. Kind of like how iron rusts, and silver tarnishes. Should I say 'smudges'?
