In Rambo First Blood 2, why did Murdock abandoned Rambo ?

Murdock's superiors in Washington wanted to placate the P.O.Ws families by being seen to be trying to find their sons. The mission was authorised on the understanding that no prisoners would be found. The original plan was for Rambo to report back that no prisoners existed. When Rambo reported that he had found prisoner plan B was activated and Murdock ordered the pilot to abandon Rambo so that Washington could come up with any story they wanted. Washington didn't want any prisoners found because it didn't want to have to negotiate with Vietnam for the prisoners release.

It's an alright film better than Rambo 2 & 3. Not better than First Blood though. One thing it does have more than First Blood is violence. The violence in Rambo is on a scale I've never witnessed before. If we were in the age of the video nasty then this film would be banned. Stallone is quite good in the film but it's not for the squeamish.
