How to get rid of rats?
There's tons of them everywhere in my garage. I here them scatter behind boxes an see them scatter on the planks that run across the sealing, sometimes il also here them under the tub but there not on the inside of the house. An exterminators just gets rid of them with traps so what should I do instead of having to call one of them cuz they bin there for a couple months an I set some traps but they didn't fall for half of them

An exterminator doesn't just set traps. They use their skill and experience to identify where the rats are coming in from so that can be rectified and also the routes the rats are running along so that the traps and rodenticides can be targeted to maximum effect. They also carefully consider which traps are the most appropriate for each location and know how to set them up to trigger correctly whilst minimising the risk to non-target species.
You clearly have a major infestation and they breed very quickly. Unless you can kill more of them than they can replace you're just going to waste money and allow the problem to worsen. I strongly recommend that you get an exterminator in.

First ask yourself what is in your garage or outside of it that is attracting these rats. if there is a food source and a place to hide clean this up. Don't poison rats , they will hide somewhere as they die and then your house will stink of dead rat.
1. find someone with a dog that hunts rats, leave a door open and Let the dog in to kill as many as he can or chase them out, wear gloves and bring a shovel . move boxes etc in your garage around with the shovel. when you see a rat smash him with the shovel and finish him off. start at the side opposite the door and work your way to the door. You wont get them all but you should get the majority out.
2. Find where they are getting in to your garage and block these entry points. then get some traps that catch rats alive, its a wire cage and the door is on a spring, put some bait in there. But they are very clever and don't always go for it, it could take a few weeks. put some traps in you garage and outside. When you do catch them just drop the cage into a bucket of water n kill them, don't let them out. seems cruel but its the easiest way to deal with a live rat in a cage.
3. if you are confident that all entry points to your house are blocked leave some poison outside only.
4. make sure the area outside your house/garage is clean of (a) anything rats will eat (b) objects that they can hide behind.

Some candy on several snap traps will catch rats. Reese's mini peanut butter cups are very good. When a rat is caught in a trap, it can be disposed of. When they die of poison, they will crawl into hard to reach places, like under the bathtub. Horrible smell.
There's an opening around the pipes under your bathtub.
Source(s): We made the mistake of putting rat poison under the house. The rats usually leave and search for water, but a mother rat went under a bathtub, between the tub and the floor, where her babies were and died and the babies died too. We did not know there was an opening around the pipes. The tub was pulled out and the dead rats removed and the hole around the pipes was filled in with canned foam. - Karen LLv 76 years ago
Exterminators do more than just set traps. The figure out where the rats are getting in and block up those places, or explain to you what places they are likely to be getting in and what you can do to block the rodents' access to your building. You can do a good deal of that yourself, if you care to start looking around at your garage, inside and outside, and figure out where they might be getting in. Eliminating how they get in is the only way to get them out of there for good.

Pour down laundry bleach. Put down spring rat traps in great numbers. They may be too smart to trip the traps. A couple of cats might help. Don't catch the cats in the traps.
