Are all of the paintings in the National Gallery of Art in D.C. real?

I went to the National Gallery of Art a couple of weeks ago. The artwork there is incredible, but are the paintings that they hang up in the individual galleries the original works or are they reproductions only used for show?

I just find it hard to believe they would put hundreds of multimillion dollar paintings on display where anyone could destroy them if they wanted to.

Forgive me if this is a stupid question

Yes they are all original - reproductions of any kind (usually much smaller) are only used when a painting is on loan to another museum

Didn't you notice the number of guards around keeping an eye on the people? They are not there just to guide people to the restrooms.
