What happen when you put the wrong oil in differential ? When it required 75w-90 and my mechanic put 80w-90.?

Now I got a burn smell coming from the rear . I ran the Differential low on oil before for 1 yrs because it was leaking and I didn't know.

80 is slightly thicker and should do absolutely no damage. It should, in fact, be better for long runs when the rear end gets hotter.

I don't think it will cause any harm. Any lube is better than none.

Those two grades of lube are very similar. There should be no problem.
