The best description of new moon is the time when the sun rises almost at the same time (within miutes difference only) the moon ALSO rises at the same time and same eastern side.
So just watch for moon rising at the time of sun rise during the next new moon day. Of course spoting the moon might just be difficult.
The full moon day is the revese the moon rises exactly almost at the same time sun sets. This is easy to spot.
Look at the sky the next full moon day and test yourself.

New Moon is the first phase of the Moon, when it orbits closest to the Sun in the sky as seen from the Earth. It is the instant when the Moon and the Sun have the same ecliptical longitude.

This is when the moon and the earth are on the same side of the earth.
The are both in the sky at the same time, but the sun is so very very bright you can;t see the moon.
