Swim Team Advice?
I'm a freshman in high school, and I'm thinking of joining my swim team, but i'm not the best. I haven't gone swimming since August and I was never the fastest. I'm not bad but I'm not as good as the other kids who have been on team for a long time. Most have been on the city swim team for months and I'm just feeling really insecure. I'm the that great, can anyone offer me advice on what to do to improve? Conditioning starts in February. Can you tell me stories of your swim team experiences? Thanks

Hi there :)
Ive been a competitive swimmer for7 years and im currently 15
my competitive swim team (outside of school) has practices everyday, 14 hours a week. We include weight rooms and dryland training too (to build strength) and yeah. Swimming is a SPEED sport, meaning it is individual and u compete with ur times. Its different from basketball and soccer in the sense that if u skip even one day of practice, ull feel "out of shape". Idk thats for me (but im national level so i might b a bit diff from u)
For my SCHOOL TEAM (i live in canada, idk if ur in america or not), we have different groups. Theres the competitive group (ppl who swim outside of school) and the junior and senior groups (ppl who dont swim outside of school). trust me, everyone is in the same situation ur in, so ull do fine at try outs. Maybe swim a couple times (if u want) before hand so u get a feel for the water before going into tryouts.
But yeah! Thats basically it, and im sure ull do fine, give it a try!
