OK so Yahoo changed the rules on how to get voted best answer several months ago.?

Before you could get awarded best answer by receiving the most votes. that has changed and now only the asker can select best answer. My problem is, why not restart everyone's point coint to level the playing field? The old method allowed cheating and users got points by voting for themselves. There are many people with a high percentage of best answers but those were under the old rules. It doesn't happen that way anymore. Users are not voting best answers anymore and askers are reluctant to give the best answer or forget to come back to select. So the ability to get best answer has eroded and affects those who started within the last year more than those who have banked thousands of bogus best answer points. Is that fair?

Update:

Keep on reporting this as a violation. It only proves my point and I don't care if I lose points! Bring it on! Because the truth will come out!

I have only ever had one account and my percentage has gone down because of the new rules , most questions asked are only looking for affirmation of the questioners opinion and not really searching for the best answer . I think that yahoo should try and figure out how to control the multiple account cheaters but I have no idea how they would do that .

Because many users earned those points fairly, over the course of many years. With dedication and excellent answers, not cheating. Do you punish all Olympic athletes because one person is caught doing drugs? Do you "level the field" by removing all the stats from baseball players or basketball players because the rules of the game have evolved over the years? Of course not.

Bottom line, though, is that this site isn't supposed to BE about the points, or getting Best Answers. It is supposed to be about giving excellent answers to users who ask for help. If you do THAT - you have all the satisfaction needed. For people who are here to simply give silly comments or useless answers to non-questions to make the decision to drag everybody else down to their level is ludicrous.

It is not fair, but my points were not bogus, just obtained through time. Now my percentage is declining because I still answer but nobody, make that NOOOOBODY, selects a best answer to their question. To make it truly fair, dump points for best answer completely and set all accounts back to zero. That wipes out any incentive to answer.

Voting for yourself was not cheating. It was allowed since too many questions did not have a best answer. Starting over would not be fair for members who have been here for years.

  • How do you think about the answers? You can sign in to vote the answer.

LOL, so you noticed many cheated by voting for selves to build up points or using multiple accounts to reach Level 7 and onward in points.

Your idea sounds good t me but not to the cheaters.

PS I admit I voted some for my own answers if month went by w/o a BA being awarded. Sometimes I was only voter, sometimes I was second vote to get BA.
