How can I get better at chess as quickly as possible?

I started playing chess a couple of months ago, and I've been studying strategy and trying to improve my skill level. I've learned all of the basic concepts (control the center, castle early, basic openings, etc.) and my ability has improved noticeably, but there seem to be a few basic mistakes that I always end up making. What is the quickest and most effective way that I can improve my skill level?

Study basic tactical exercises. Again and again and again. . For anyone who has only played a couple of months this offers the most bang for the buck. Include both middle game and end game exercises. Look at the tactics time and chess tempo web sites for exercises. http://tacticstime.com/ http://chesstempo.com/

Watch chess tutorials on YouTube. The best videos come from a user called the chess website. Just type that in YouTube and you have many educational videos to watch.

    Join a chess club.

You will be able to analyse and discuss your games, and spot any typical errors so you can work on them.

You will see faster improvement than just working by yourself with online exercises, as good as liberal_60's advice is - as far as it goes.

Play online against others or the computer programs are higher levels of difficulty as you continue
