What are the difference between "details" and "information"?

    Information usually gives general details about something but leaves out the most important things a person needs to know.

    Details give the specifics about the information one has and leaves no doubt in your mind.

    For your question the information needed is the location and the reason. There are no specifics. The details are the time and date - no doubt.

    details can mean every little bit of whatever it is.....like Father Christmas's details would be red hat, black boots, white beard.....setting out all his details.

    Information is a slab of facts.....so .....He gave me the information I needed to make the laptop work.

    These words are often interchangeable.....very subtle differences.

    Detail: 'an individual fact or item'

    Information: 'facts provided or learned about something or someone'

    So information is multiple details, just like wood is multiple timbers.
