How do start talking to a guy i havent talk to in ages?

Me and this guy used to date for awhile. Me and him got on extremely well and i could of told that he liked me. Only thing was that it wasnt the right time..

I wasnt looking for a relationship at the time but yet i still liked him. I have had bad relationships in the past and recently guys were only after the one thing. This guy was different but it just wasnt the right time.

When i told he was heartbroken. He told me he felt used because of how we did things with each other not that long before.. i felt so bad and told him we could he friends but he said no cause 'we know both it wouldnt work'.. i was so angry when he said this and me him havent talk properly since....

That said he wished me a happy birthday and a merry christmas after all that, and he would always say hello when he sees me in the nightclub that he works in on a saturday night and tbh i wasnt like that with him when he passed his driving test....

Now things have changed... i want to have a relationship now, and i want to truely see if me and him could have something. What should i do. Should i just text him and make casual or wait till i see him again face to face and make casual talk and see where it goes?
