Benefits vs drawbacks of entry level work?

Anyone with advice, please weigh in on this:

Truck driver-simple work, solitary work, decent pay

-needs CDL, difficult before age 21, no support out on the road, unhealthy

delivery driver- similar concerns to above

Construction-general labor)- simple, physical work, good pay

injury

Garbage collector- similar concerns to above.

also need a good way to answer questions about occupation.

If it is possible, I'd love to be apprenticed to a farmer when the season starts. As a side thing, I'd like to start a large garden for the homeless. I need advice for an outlet. Any organization names would be appreciated

police officer, maybe??

I live in Canton, Michigan in the US.

I'd like to start paid work within a month or two, and i'd like to do a few days of school simultaneously.

I'm also a vegetarian and I would try avoiding government work if I can

I'd like to also know requirements for these. Thanks

Update:

I am 18 turning 19 on August 18.I have developmental issues and I want to pay my way through university and little expenses. I get financial aid but not everything is covered

I can only speak to trucking. Some people love it. Most companies provide decent pay and benefits. Drivers often work in pairs.

The trucking industry is highly regulated, and part of that is limiting the number of hours you can be required to work. The company is required to give you adequate time to rest while on the road.

There is also a trend to improve driver pay and benefits. Good truck drivers are in demand, so getting a good job would not be a problem.

An ideal route to go would be as an owner operator. Some couples work that way because they enjoy the travel. There are some really nice truck cabs that provide good living quarters right in the truck. They are independent, make their own hours and get to travel all over the country.

All in all, the people I know who have been financially successful over the long term are guys in a construction trade like plumbing or carpentry. You will always find work if you know how to provide a service people need.

Calling a job "entry level" implies that there is advancement potential and you will not remain at that level very long.

All of the jobs that you list are dead end. You could work as a driver for 20 yrs without many promotions. And being a driver isn't exactly training and experience you need to move up into different higher paying positions.

The exception is police officer. They have promotion potential, if you get the requisite education and do well on the advancement exams.

Entry level positions can be an excellent way to get in the door and move up IF two things are also in play: 1) There really is some opportunity to advance even if most people don't. 2) You understand that from the minute you walk into that job that you begin working hard to advance (most people don't). Learn everything you can every chance you get to learn more about the company, the job, and the competition. Introduce yourself to everybody who walks in the door and find out what their connection is to the company and learn from them. Your efforts will be noticed and, if you're sharp, you will move up quickly.

The benefits of entry level work is that you get a paycheck. The drawbacks are that the work usually sucks, the pay is low, and the management is mediocre at best.
