Did i install the wrong distributor? hesitates on acceleration?

My car is 1.5l and there are 1.6l versions of the same engine with different distributors. The printing on the box is unreadable and the seller could easily have mistaken this for the wrong one.

Could the wrong distributor cause these symptoms:

I set the idle and timing by the book and it sits smoothly at 650 rpm without the tps connected, 6 degrees btdc as per the hood labels instructions. If i step on the gas slowly it revs smooth, but if i step on the gas for a quick rev from idle it hesitates for a second, then runs smooth.

It reminds me of when my scooter had a rich condition when the autochoke failed and it hesitated for a bit when i gave it too much gas on takeoff.

Update:

I made sure the rotor was in the exact same position as the old one and turned the motor to top dead center with the valve cover off.

Update 2:

It's a nissan sunny 1995 (ga15de engine).

Hi you seem to forget about the engine management system a vital part of all modern cars and bikes.

vehicle info would be appreciated, make sure you mark the alignments off first before removing distributor, rotor arm position at no.1 cylinder, BTDC.
