You have a number of options.
If both computers are connected to the internet you can easily email any files that are less then 20MB (email is limited to 20MB) to yourself.
If files are bigger than 20MB, or if you have a lot of files, you can upload files to a syncing service such as Dropbox or Google Drive, or Microsoft Skydrive and then download them on your new computer. This would be the easiest way to transfer a large quantity of files without an external drive. All of those accounts have free versions.
Or if you have an external hard drive, or USB thumb drive you can put the files on the drive and then put them on your new computer. If you don't have an external device like this you can get a USB thumb drive for $20 or less.

Nick is the best one correct. There are many other options, as the others have written. But they're kind of foolish for an average everyday solution.
The simple flash drive will do fine. It's super easy to load them onto the flash drive and super easy to put them into the new computer. So you don't have to "cloud" anything.
