Why do some people not like post rock?
I listen to bands such as : this will destroy you, explosions in the sky, caspian, God is an astronaut, hammock, lights out Asia and Sigurd ros.
What I don't understand is why some people don't like the genre of music. My brother said he dislikes it. Is because the songs are all structured the same with a build up then a loud part.
I personally think everyone would like at least some bands in the genre as the music is very emotional and moving in some cases.
Also doesn't everyone love hammock :)

There are different kinds of post-rock. What you described is in GYBE vein. Your brother is not wrong. They all sound pretty much the same and this is coming from someone who likes post-rock. All of them build up for a huge crescendo and usually in a dramatic way. Once you heard a few bands like that there's nothing much else to explore for something new. Everyone should give any genre a chance imo.
Personally, I prefer bands who incorporate post-rock with other genres and keep it fresh. For example, this song kills me every time. It obviously has huge post rock influences especially when the song hits its crescendo.
