BOXING: manny pacquiao, jimmy mclarnin and georges carpentier fought from flyweight and up: which climb is most impressive?
jimmy mclarnin beat 7 hall of famers in Villa, Labarba, Ambers, Canzoneri, Ross, Kaplan, Petrolle, Leonard, Young Corbett 3.. Pac beat possible hall of famers cotto, hatton, mosley, dela hoya, bradley, barrera, marquez and morales and mayweather??? hehe,, now for carpentier i am not so sure to be honest but he did win the light heavyweight championship and lost to dempsey and tunney. Wow these 3 are awesome. Again all started from flyweight but both mclarnin and carpentier were naturaly big boxers that were bound to fight at the higher weights for example mclarnin fighting flyweight champ pancho villa weighing 122 lbs that's jr. featherweight, manny was simply small. trust me how people reacted when it was announced that pac would take on dela hoya.. then cotto.. anyhow, judging by the quality of opposition i would have to go wtih pacquiao if you consider the way he destroyed the possible hall of famers he beat. i also think manny took higher risk but i have to mention mclarnin beat legends in the upper rankings like ross, leonard and canzeroni. Perhaps the 8 titles in 8 divisions with 4 lineal titles in 4 different divisions would more than make up. I would also have to respect carpentier's great feat, i mean from flyweight to heavyweight? that's mindblowing, if only he won titles from other weight classes but really he was just bound to be a light heavyweight great.
