Visiting Belfast as a mixed religion couple, is that safe?
We want to visit Belfast. We are Americans. I am Catholic and my wife is Anglican but we refuse to talk about religion or local politics with strangers. Will it be safe for us to visit Belfast? Will we have to tell authorities or other people about religion or be forced to take sides? All we want to do is see Belfast, meet the people of Belfast, and mind our own business.
Thanks guys! We don't get a lot of news about Northern Ireland in the Southeast US, except for Savannah, GA, a hub for Irish immigrants, so we don't get a good picture of what is going on over there.

You are so sorely out of date, you haven't paid attention to the news in decades. Go & have fun, and stay out of religious discussions. Lots to see & do in Belfast - Northern Ireland is promoting tourism, etc.
It would be very wise to do some homework before you go. Study up the latest tourist guides, choose some of the things you want to see & do, select a nice hotel & a particularly good restaurant for a fine dinner during your visit, etc.

In all the times I've been to Belfast, never once has anyone asked me my religion

Groan!!! Unless you are planning on going back in time to the 70s nobody will give a damn whether you are Catholic, Anglican or tree worshipers. Why would you visit somewhere you know so little about?

Unless you wear a LARGE badge stating your religion no one will know. Declarations are now illegal, no-one may demand that information. Hotels do not care as long as your card is good.

No one will care! How often do you bring up your religion on any vacation? Never? Then why is it an issue in Ireland.

No one will care what religion you are, you will be seen as yet one more American who is clearly totally out of touch with reality, this is the UK you are so behind times it is unreal
