Is it normal I can't bite all the way down after getting braces on?

Today I got put braces on and when I tried to eat for the first time I noticed one of my front teeth hits a lower bracket so my back molars do not touch so I chew funny. Is this normal?

I would assume orthodontists check for this sort of thing after putting them on & during check ups/tightening appointments. I would at least give your orthodontist a call, if it impedes chewing too much you could potentially knock the bracket off if you bite too hard on accident.

(It's been 10 years for mine, and several for my brothers, but ours would give you 1-2 bracket fixes for free but after that you had to start paying for them, and he wasn't cheap about it...I only dislodged one at the back while eating chicken with breading that was too hard, my brother managed to dislodge quite a few)

Other than that, yeah braces can sometimes mess with how you bite/chew, especially the first couple months. (But brackets shouldn't get in the way of teeth)
