x is 5
Just write in 5 where you see the letter x,
This is called substituting. You can do it.
It is actually easier than writing your name.
Then work out 3*5 + 2 = 17 and that gives you f(x).
You may be used to calling that y.
The ordered pair just means write down the point in the form (x, y)
The answer is (5, 17) of course, but more helpful than the answer was the method you just learnt.

There is no 'y' in your expression
f(x)=3x+2, find f(5)
is
f(5) = 3(5) +2
f(5) = 17
This is the correct answer. Don't assume anything, just write down what you know.
If you graphed this, the vertical would be f(x), the horizontal would be x.

the math. expression f(5) means to put 5 in for x and the answer, usually called y, is also named f(5) in this case. So put in 5 and you get 17.
the equation f(x) =3x+2 is often written y=3x+2
this is just using various "names" and expressions for the same things!
