How do you measure an ounce of meat or bread?

They're solid items?

Generally, one slice of store bought bread is one ounce. A four ounce serving of meat is roughly the size and thickness of a deck of playing cards, so there is a good estimate if you do not have a scale handy.

Use a scale. Ounces are also a measure of weight. 16 ounces equals a pound.

My scales have pounds and ounces and metric. You chop off a piece and put it on the scales.

Best to do that on a scale.
