Is a true a rear differential can caught on fire ? By not fixing the noise on the differential.?

    It's possible if you get a total bearing collapse. Hot oil leaking with shards of hot metal = smoke and fire.

    Of course the diff could also just lock up on the freeway and you get mowed down by the 18 wheeler that's following you. Your insurance will probably pay for a nice funeral in that case.

    The chances of anything wrong in any gear box including differentials somewhere between zip and the moon. If you got noise you got problem. Go have a mechanic listen to it and drive it.

    Yes. Everything in the car can catch on fire.
