Wall outlet got wet and tripped breaker, but now smells?

So, I had a minor plumbing catastrophe and long story short, an outlet on our kitchen island that I had an extension cord with a light on it got wet and tripped the breaker. There is now an odor in the kitchen, like something electric blew up. I did not see any smoke or anything, and when the light and extension cord dried out I plugged it into another outlet and it still works.

I have not yet turned the breaker back on and would like to know if something else is likely fried, and how I would go about checking if it's the outlet or something. I pulled off the outlet cover and it wasn't black or anything (like it blew up or whatever), but I didn't actually detach and pull out the plug. There's also a dishwasher and garbage disposal plugged in near where the water was leaking, but I assumed those things have some other safeguards since they have a higher potential of getting wet than other appliances (maybe I'm wrong?).

Anyway, let me know what you think I should do. And don't say call an electrician.

What actually got wet the outlet or the extension cord wwith the light. More likely you got the light wet and that triggered the circuit breaker. Just disconnect the cord and the light and turn the breaker back on. fit stays on you are fine.If there is a problem in the outlet the breaker will go right back off. Check your light bulb and make sure the cord is dry. If the bulb itself got wet that might have caused the noise you heard.

Well, since you did have plumbing, it's possible that something did get fried and you didn't notice it.

So go over all the outlets and appliances in the kitchen.

Let it dry out over night before you turn the breaker on. Leave the faceplate off until then.
